Since November 1, 2015 the head of the Internal Security Bureau is Valters Murnieks.
V. Murnieks was born in 1973. He started working in institutions of the Ministry of the Interior system in 1994.
In 1997, V. Murnieks continued to work in the State Police, where he filled various posts, including officiated as the head of the main Criminal Police Administration Bureau.
From 2010 to 2015 V. Murnieks worked at the DNB bank as the Security Manager.
V. Murnieks has a master's degree, acquired in the Latvian Police Academy, as well as additional education in the USA Academy of Federal Investigation Bureau at the University of Virginia in the accredited programme for leading law enforcement employees.
Since 2014 he is certified anti-money laundering specialist (CAMS®).
